EU Code Week 2026 Launch Event

EU Code Week 2026 will officially begin with an online launch event on 12 October 2026, bringing together the EU Code Week community, educators, policymakers, partners and digital skills advocates from across Europe.

Taking place from 14:00 to 16:00 CET, the event will be broadcast online from the Euractiv studios in the heart of Brussels. This year’s theme, “Building Resilience, Connecting & Empowering Communities in the Age of AI”, reflects the growing importance of digital skills, coding and community-led learning in a rapidly changing technological landscape.

As artificial intelligence continues to transform how we learn, work and interact, EU Code Week remains focused on a simple but powerful goal: making coding, computational thinking and digital creativity accessible to everyone.

A European community for digital learning

The launch event will open with welcome remarks from representatives of the European Commission, JA Europe and the EU Code Week community. Speakers will reflect on the role of digital education in helping young people, teachers and communities build confidence, resilience and creativity in the age of AI.

Participants will also hear from the EU Code Week Community Council President, Evgeni Minev, who will welcome the community and highlight the importance of local action in strengthening digital skills across Europe.

Stories from the Code Week community

A key part of the launch event will focus on stories from the community and the wider Code4Europe project experience. These stories will showcase how teachers, ambassadors, hubs, partners and local organisers are bringing coding and digital skills into classrooms, workshops, libraries, youth centres and community spaces.

From small local activities to larger collaborative initiatives, these examples will show how EU Code Week continues to grow through the creativity and commitment of people across Europe.

Coding in the age of AI

The event will also explore the relevance of coding in the age of artificial intelligence. As AI tools become part of everyday life, understanding the logic behind digital technologies is more important than ever.

A dedicated panel discussion will look at how coding can help learners develop problem-solving skills, critical thinking, creativity and confidence. The discussion will also consider how digital education can support resilience, helping people better understand, question and shape the technologies around them.

Connecting and empowering communities

Another panel will focus on the power of integrated digital ecosystems. This session will explore how schools, communities, public institutions, industry, civil society and European initiatives can work together to support inclusive digital education.

By connecting people, resources and opportunities, EU Code Week helps communities across Europe take practical steps towards stronger digital participation.

Looking ahead to EU Code Week 2026

The launch event will also look ahead to the 2026 edition of EU Code Week, highlighting upcoming opportunities for schools, teachers, learners, hubs and partners to get involved.

Participants will get a first look at promotional materials for Code Week 2026, including a video introducing the campaign and a presentation of Minecraft Education activities for Code Week.

The programme will close with final reflections on the importance of supporting digital education at European, national and local level.
