VET Education Joins EU Code Week

How can vocational education and training providers take part in EU Code Week in a way that is practical, relevant and manageable for their learners?

On 1 October 2026, EU Code Week will bring together VET teachers, educators and community members for VET Education Joins EU Code Week, an interactive online workshop designed to help vocational educators prepare for this year’s EU Code Week celebrations, taking place from 10–25 October 2026.

Making EU Code Week practical for VET

EU Code Week is a grassroots initiative supported by the European Commission that encourages people to explore coding and digital literacy in creative, inclusive and engaging ways.

As the initiative expands its engagement with vocational education and training, the October workshop will show how VET centres can take part using activities that fit naturally within their existing learning environments.

Participants will hear examples of activities already being used in VET settings and explore approaches that can be adapted to different subjects, learners and levels of experience. The aim is not to make every educator a coding expert. Instead, the workshop will demonstrate that a small, well-planned digital activity can be enough to bring a classroom into the EU Code Week community.

The event builds on Building the Alliance: EU Code Week for VET, held in May 2026. Educators who attended the first workshop are welcome to continue the journey, while those discovering EU Code Week for the first time can join without any previous experience.

From inspiration to an activity you can use

A central part of the workshop will be a hands-on breakout session.

Following a series of short best-practice examples, participants will work in small groups with experienced facilitators to explore an activity in more detail. They will have an opportunity to ask questions, look at the resources and time required, and consider how the idea could work within their own VET context.

Participants will then adapt the activity to their own students and learning environment, considering what they might change, the time and resources available and the learning outcomes they would like to achieve.

The groups will also exchange feedback and ideas before looking at how their activity can become part of EU Code Week. Facilitators will demonstrate how to add an initiative to the EU Code Week activity map and will provide participants with practical guidance they can use when organising their activity in October.

Building digital and social skills

Taking part in EU Code Week can support more than technical skills.

Activities involving coding, 3D modelling and other digital technologies can also create opportunities for learners to practise collaboration, creativity and problem-solving. These skills are increasingly relevant across professions and sectors, not only for students planning a career in technology.

By approaching digital learning through practical and enjoyable activities, the workshop aims to help educators create opportunities for students to experiment, work together and build confidence with technology.

Connecting the VET community

Peer learning and connection are also at the heart of the event.

Participants will be able to meet educators from other VET organisations, exchange experiences and connect with members of the wider EU Code Week community. The workshop will also help build links between VET educators, EU Code Week Leading Teachers and local networks that can provide further support as centres prepare their activities.

The event has been developed through collaboration between EU Code Week and the European Vocational Training Association (EVTA), helping to bring VET experience and EU Code Week resources together in a format specifically designed for vocational educators.
