Bringing Quantum, Coding and Community Together: Inside the EU Code Week Italy Summer School 2026
14/07/26

This July, a group of passionate educators from all over Italy will meet in Turin for two intense days of hands-on workshops, lab visits and community building: the EU Code Week Italy Summer School 2026.
The Summer School is reserved to Italian EU Code Week Leading Teachers and is coordinated by Fondazione LINKS, in collaboration with Italian Ambassador Alessandro Bogliolo and Edu Coordinator Margherita Di Stasio. The idea is to create time and space for teachers to meet in person, exchange practices, and co‑design activities for Code Week 2026.
Over two days, participants will move between unplugged activities, AI literacy, design and quantum computing, always keeping one goal in mind: designing meaningful and inclusive learning experiences for their students.
Sneak a peek at what’s about to happen
Day 1: hands-on and unplugged
On Day 1, teachers break the ice with a community-building activity about personal “superpowers” and strengths. Next comes a playful introduction to CodyColorKIT, the unplugged method Alessandro Bogliolo developed to bring computational thinking to mixed groups without devices.
In the afternoon, “AI literacy unplugged – The Bestiary of Artificial Intelligence” helps participants explore key AI concepts through concrete, low-tech activities. The day ends with a short metacognitive reflection, followed by a shared dinner in the city centre to keep the networking going.
Day 2: quantum labs and co-design
Day 2 starts in a unique setting: a dedicated visit to the Coding & Quantum laboratory and the IQM quantum computer at Politecnico di Torino. Right after, the group joins “Quantum Computing in STEM Education“, an online talk with Science on Stage. Here, teachers discover concrete ideas and classroom-ready materials for introducing basic quantum concepts in maths, physics and computer science lessons.
The rest of the day focuses on co-design. Activities include 3D modelling for coding & design, an analysis of context and needs, and a structured path from local needs to clear objectives for Code Week 2026.
Our community getting stronger
The whole experience is hosted at Politecnico di Torino, where Fondazione LINKS, the EU Code Week Italian HUB, is located.
What really makes this Summer School special, though, is its community dimension. The event connects Leading Teachers from lower and upper secondary schools, values their different contexts, and still builds a shared identity around EU Code Week values: accessibility, inclusion, experimentation and collaboration.
By working side by side on real projects for their classes, teachers leave Turin with new ideas, resources, and a network of colleagues they can rely on all year.
Schools today must navigate AI, quantum technologies and digital skills. Initiatives like the EU Code Week Italy Summer School show that high-level innovation can still stay concrete, teacher-centred and classroom-ready.
By combining unplugged activities, emerging technologies and co-design, the Summer School becomes a living laboratory. Here, teachers imagine – and prototype – the future of STEM and coding education, together.
