BEBRAS joining Code Week as a Supporter and ECWT

Initiative for linking the three Coding-Computational Thinking-Digital Skills ecosystems

August 27th,2026 will go down as a key milestone for Code Week’s long term impact.

On this day the European Centre for Women and Technology (ECWT) invited to a webinar and brought together: key representatives of the Code Week Leadership (Vice-President Diana Filip, JA Europe; Eduardo Balekijan, Project Manager and Günalp Turan, Network Engagement Manager Code Week); representatives of the BEBRAS Community (Prof. Valentina Dagienė, Vilnius University, Founder and past-President of the Bebras International Association; Dr Sébastien Combéfis, Director at the Ministry of Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (FWB), Emeritus Fellow Professor Andrew Csizmadia, Raspberry Pi Foundation & BEBRAS UK Challenge Manager, Prof. Zsuzsa Pluhar, ELTE University, Member of the BEBRAS Board); and Dimitris Raftopoulos, ECWT Knowledge Broker and Eva Fabry, Director ECWT.

Three key decisions were announced during the call:

  • Past-President Prof. Valentina Dagienė informed the participants that the General Assembly of BEBRAS has elected Dr Sébastien Combéfis, Director at the Ministry of Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (FWB) as the new President of the BEBRAS International Association as of August 24th, 2026.
  • Sébastien Combéfis formally confirmed that the BEBRAS General Assembly has approved BEBRAS joining Code Week as a Supporter.
  • Eva Fabry, the Director of the European Centre for Women and Technology, acting since 2025 as a Provisional Member of the International Bebras Community (IBC), and BEBRAS Norway representative informed that the ECWT’s initiative for linking the three ecosystems for Coding – Computational Thinking – Digital Skills has received support.

Emeritus Fellow Professor Andrew Csizmadia, Raspberry Pi Foundation & BEBRAS UK Challenge Manager presented “From digital competence to responsible digital agency – A connected entitlement for compulsory European education”.

The presentation is the first in a series of dialogues inviting the stakeholders of the three key ecosystems to a broad Community dialogue on what are the implications of BEBRAS & EU Code Week acting as Complementary Gateways.

Widening of the dialogue with the Digital Skills Community is planned for September.
