The proposed online event will be for participants in the age group of 8 to 18 years. The event will be free and open to all members of the public. The mentor-led workshops will be carried out using sensors like light, sound, accelerometer, etc. and its interface with various microcontrollers like BBC Micro:bit, Raspberry Pi Pico, etc. based on block programming and Micro:python. The major attractions or highlights of the events are: • Hands-on project instructions to be provided for 8- to 18 years old people guided by the mentor Dr. Sujit Bhattacharya (PhD, ME, BE, SMIEEE, FIETE, MIET). • Insight into various physical elements to measure light, sound, temperature, magnetism, gravity, etc. • Detailed theory of operations of various sensors like light, sound, acceleration, magnetism, moisture, etc. • Electrical interface of these sensors with popular microcontrollers like BBC Micro:bit, Raspberry Pi Pico. • Programming techniques to get data from these sensors to create various STEM projects. • Demonstration of various projects based on these sensors and microcontrollers. • Projects to be based on UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Registration invitation will be announced on the website and other social media.

King's Arms Project will run two 4-day blocks of coding sessions in the half term for primary school children who have been resettled in the local area. Most of these children are new to the country and live in households with limited incomes and minimal access to IT devices. We will provide an opportunity for children to develop their digital skills while also working on communication and collaboration. We have chosen to partner with Jam Coding, who will provide expert knowledge and teaching approaches as well as supply the equipment that we do not otherwise have access to. They will run their Minecraft Hackers workshop, which means that even the children with limited English language will be able to join in and develop their understanding of coding through command blocks and broader awareness of computational thinking. This will be a very special event for the resettled children because for many of them they can engage with ideas and materials otherwise outside of the reach of their families. Their emerging English skills won't pose a barrier for them in this instance and they can enjoy exposure to a fun and exciting world not readily available to them.
CODE CLUB LUNCH CLUB
Fri, Sep 13, 2024 12:00 PM
Jam Coding is going to run a series of 12 lunch clubs focused around our underserved and underrepresented children exploring game design. We intend to offer this to our Pupil Premium and SEND children who may otherwise not be able to access extra- tuition. The children will build their own game environments before coding sprites and obstacles in order to make a game of their own choosing. The workshop will focus on ensuring children understand key terms such as commands, events, algorithm, repeat loops and demonstrate how to use such elements. Children will develop their computational thinking throughout the course. Jam Coding synopsis for this course: “At Jam Coding, our goal is to help improve children’s digital skills . This game building workshop will teach children how to code and build their very own 3D computer game. Children will have fun creating interactive animations and games using visual coding. Working in teams, they will learn how to think logically and solve problems.” By using Jam Coding we are able to access their technology and expert Code Coaches. They will be holding a celebration week on the last where children are able to explore their peers work and will be given a certificate for their participation.
