Agios Spyridonas Primary (Nicosia), in collaboration with Open University of Cyprus (Open Discovery Space National Coordinator) will organize events for the promotion of coding in Primary Education. During morning hours, other schools will be able to visit Agios Spyridonas, take a tour of the first Computer History Museum located within the school, and learn to program using BASIC on BBC, Amstrad CPC, Sinclair, Commodore 64 computers, then move to Scratch using a lab of 20 OLPC XO laptops. Saturday, 18.00 - 19.00: PTA meeting, launch of 'Week of Code' Sunday, 11.00 - 16.00: Activities for students, (1) Visit to the Computer History Museum, how computers were programmed in the late 70's and early to mid 80's, (2) Developing games for young audiences using Sony PS3 "Little Big Planet", (3) Hour of Code activities using our computer lab computers (Ubuntu Linux), (4) Hour of code activities with Lightbot using our Android tablets, (4) Introduction to Scratch - development of simple game using OLPC XO laptops. Monday, 7.45 - 13.05: Introduction to programming using paper-based assignments - cross curricular games in Physical Education involving students in Grades A and B. Start of our competition for solving paper-based problems involving LOGO instructions. Tuesday, 7.45 - 13.05: Introduction to Scratch for grades A and B using OLPC XO laptops (one per child). Programming competitions during breaks, including chess game competition on the computer. Wednesday, 7.45 - 13.05: Scratch programming for grades C and D using Ubuntu Linux-based computers (computer lab). Development of simple 'Mario' game. Thursday, 7.45 - 13.05: Game development using Little Big Planet on PS3 for grades A - C. Game development using Scratch for grades D - F (fourth to sixth grade). Cross curricular activities involving programming in various subjects such as Mathematics, Language and Science. Friday, 7.45 - 13.05: Visit from Agglisides Primary school, tour of our computer history museum from fifth grade students. Competition on Lightbot Hour of Code between fifth grade students from both schools. Development of scratch games by mixed groups consisting of students from both schools. End of Week of code activities.
