Can you outsmart artificial intelligence using logic and critical thinking?

In this Code Week activity, 8th-grade students become logic detectives and explore the world of logical operations (AND, OR, NOT) and logic gates through a series of interactive challenges. Working in pairs, students solve real-life problems, design logical systems, test their solutions, and investigate whether AI-generated answers are always correct.

Using ChatGPT as a learning assistant, students receive hints, feedback, and explanations while remaining in control of their own learning. They compare their reasoning with AI suggestions, identify mistakes, verify logical expressions, and discover why critical thinking is essential when working with artificial intelligence.

The activity is designed for independent, self-paced learning. Step-by-step instructions, graduated hints, self-check tasks, and a final code challenge guide students through the entire process without direct teacher intervention.

Learning objectives:

Apply logical operations AND, OR, and NOT.
Understand and construct logical expressions and logic gate combinations.
Develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills.
Use AI critically and responsibly.
Recognize that AI-generated answers must be verified.

Target group: Students aged 13–14 (8th grade)
Format: Pair work, independent learning
Duration: 60–90 minutes
Tools: ChatGPT, digital or printable activity booklet

The ultimate challenge: solve the missions, catch AI making a mistake, and crack the final code!
