On 27 October 2025, our school organised a Peace Day event with various activity stations. One of the most popular was the Robotics Station, co-organised by teachers Constantina Stephanou and Nikolas Kyprianou, using our school's Blue-Bots. The station was inspired by the book "The City that drove war out" (Η πόλη που έδιωξε τον πόλεμο) by Antonis Papatheodoulou.

We placed a large floor mat showing the city before the war arrived, divided into locations: roads, the park, the squares, the museum, and the post office.

Phase 1: Following Instructions – Students worked in mixed-age groups of four (ages 6-12), with older students acting as team leaders. Their first mission was to follow a set of programmed instructions. Each group had a map and steps to guide the Blue-Bot to visit specific locations. At each stop, they read a card with the original story, narrating what that place was like before the war.

Phase 2: Programming for Peace – On the other half of the same mat, war had arrived. Now, students programmed the Blue-Bot themselves to visit the same locations. At each stop, they read a new excerpt: How did this place help chase war away? Students had to think carefully about the sequence of commands, work together, test their code, debug when the robot went the wrong way, and celebrate when they succeeded.

The collaboration between older and younger students was beautiful to watch. The older ones guided and encouraged, while the younger ones pressed buttons and learned that coding is about solving problems, not just about technology. This activity combined literature, peace education, and computational thinking in a meaningful, inclusive way.
