During our school's "Reading for Pleasure" event, we welcomed parents to join their children in a special "parents and children at the same desk" experience. Among the various stations, the Robotics Station was organised by teachers Constantina Stephanou and Nikolas Kyprianou, using our Blue-Bots. This time, the theme was "The Rights of the Child Reader".

On a large floor mat, we placed cards with different reading rights, such as "The right to read anywhere", "The right to choose what I read", "The right to stop reading a book I don't like", and "The right to read aloud or silently".

Students worked in mixed-age groups, with parents joining and supporting them. Each group received ten scenario cards. They had to read each scenario together, discuss it, and figure out which reading right it referred to. Then came the robotics challenge: they had to program the Blue-Bot to travel to the correct square on the mat.

Three groups worked simultaneously, turning the activity into a friendly competition. The goal was to identify all the reading rights on the mat. Parents and children collaborated beautifully; parents helped read the scenarios and encouraged thinking, while children took charge of the programming, deciding steps, turns, and directions. The joy of solving a scenario and watching the Blue-Bot stop on the correct square was unforgettable!

Through this activity, students learned about their rights as readers, practiced critical thinking and collaboration, and developed programming skills. The mixed-age grouping and the active involvement of parents from diverse backgrounds created an inclusive environment where every child's voice was heard and valued. It was a perfect example of how robotics can bring families and learning together.
