As part of our AI After School Club - Responsible AI@School, students at Varvakeio Model Junior High School (Athens, Greece) explored Artificial Intelligence not only as a technology but also as a social and ethical challenge.

Using the "Student Voices in AI" curriculum developed by MIT Media Lab, 16 students from all grade levels participated in discussions, and engaged in collaborative discussions and activities on Generative AI, Large Language Models, machine learning, and responsible AI practices.

Students critically examined key ethical issues of AI, including privacy, bias, misinformation, plagiarism, and skill erosion. Through this process, the school became the first outside the United States to pilot this innovative program.

The project empowered students to become active contributors to school policy. Students collaboratively developed a framework for the responsible use of AI in education. The final outcome was a set of student-generated guidelines to support ethical and effective AI use in their school.

This activity combined digital literacy, critical thinking, citizenship education, and ethical reflection, demonstrating how students can play an active role in shaping the future of AI in schools.
