EU Code Week community in Latvia welcomes new leading teachers

As part of the Code4Europe project, some of the most active teachers from across Latvia have been invited to join the EU Code Week community of Leading Teachers. Through their work, they will help promote and foster digital literacy in society and create opportunities for every Latvian to explore programming in an engaging and exciting way.

EU Code Week Latvia Leading Teachers

Code4Europe is an EU-funded project that aims to expand and enhance digital education, building on the successes of EU Code Week since its inception in 2013. EU Code Week is a grassroots initiative that celebrates coding, computational thinking and digital literacy.

Active community members in Latvia

The EU Code Week Ambassadors in Latvia are Anžela Džafarova, Egita Petrusa and Dita Holla. EU Code Week Ambassadors are the main point of contact for Code Week in each country and help spread the vision of Code Week to local communities.

Latvia is also represented in the EU Code Week Leading Teachers community by Elčins Džafarovs, Ingūna Melne, Elizabete Skricka, Inga Stiprā and Inga Niedra. The Leading Teachers represent an active community of more than 450 educators from across Europe.

Welcoming three new Leading Teachers

Three active and inspiring professionals have now joined the Leading Teachers community in Latvia:

  • Oksana Ivanova – Deputy Director of Riga State Classical Gymnasium in the field of education, teacher of computer science, robotics, programming and 3D modelling.
  • Arnita Damberga – Head of Adult Education Classes at Ventspils Digital Center.
  • Laura Uščina – Librarian at Liepāja Rainis Secondary School and Specialist in Education and Information Resource Management at Liepāja Education Board.

Why teachers get involved in EU Code Week

Teachers’ motivation to get involved in EU Code Week is multifaceted, covering personal, professional and social aspects. EU Code Week offers a unique opportunity for teachers to develop their own skills, inspire students and promote positive change in education.

Every active teacher has the opportunity to join a community of more than 450 educators from across Europe by becoming an EU Code Week Leading Teacher in Latvia. The initiative offers teachers the chance to implement innovative and creative ideas in the field of technology on a national scale.
