EU Code Week Deep Dive MOOC

This year, teachers from all over Europe get the unique opportunity to participate in the Deep Dive MOOC, organised by EU Code Week with the collaboration of the University of Urbino in order to bring innovation to the classroom and get ready for EU Code Week 2019. Are you a primary or secondary school teacher of any subject curious to know how coding and computational thinking can engage and motivate students? The Deep Dive MOOC is meant to help you become familiar with innovative tools and approaches such as visual programming tools, unplugged activities, robotics, tinkering, and making and coding for all subjects This course will provide you with ideas, free training materials and resources available in 29 languages Besides this, you will also learn what Code Week is and how to participate in this
initiative and have the opportunity to join an incredible community of like-minded teachers with whom you could exchange and interact to get ready for the school year. With no previous
experience or knowledge on coding needed, the Deep Dive MOOC is accessible to anyone willing to bring innovation to the classroom.
I think a MOOC is very useful for an approach to coding for those who
have never used it in class, but it was also interesting for me because it made
me discover tools that I didn’t know and gave me new ideas for future
activities.

Starting on 16 September 2019, the Deep Dive MOOC will lead you through 5 different modules:
- Module 1: Why Coding, Computational Thinking and EU Code Week Campaign
- Module 2: Unplugged Coding, Computational Thinking and Equity in Schools
- Module 3: Visual Programming Languages, Scratch & Co.
- Module 4: Robotics, Tinkering and Making, and App Development
- Module 5: Coding for All Subjects, Code.org – Computer Science Fundamentals
The course will take an estimated 25 hours to complete, with the flexibility to complete the modules at your own pace. After completion of the various modules and registration of an activity to the map, you will be rewarded with both a course badge and certificate. Participants who report an activity will also get certified for their participation in Code Week.
Moreover, during the MOOC you will have the chance to participate with your students in international remote lessons that will help you connect with teachers all over the world, boosting
your teaching practice and finding news opportunities of collaboration for EU Code Week 2019.
In addition, a network of national moderators will be available to help you throughout the MOOC and to support you in the following languages: English, French, Italian, Spanish,
Maltese, Finish, Polish, Romanian, Portuguese, Hungarian, Greek, Croatian, German, Estonian and Dutch.
If you didn’t participate in the Icebreaker MOOC, the first module will take you through the basics of EU Code Week and help you get acquainted with the concepts of coding and computational thinking as well as the importance of bringing it to classrooms all over Europe.
