The Cyprus Computer Museum, in collaboration with the British High Commission in Cyprus, is organising a special public event featuring two of the most influential figures in the history of modern computing: Dr Sophie Wilson and Dr Steve Furber.

The two scientists were key figures behind the BBC Micro, the first computer specifically designed for educational use, which influenced an entire generation of students, educators, and engineers. From this educational environment emerged the ideas that led to the creation of the ARM architecture, which today forms the technological core of billions of digital devices worldwide — including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and embedded systems.

The event is of particular importance for Cyprus, as it highlights the role of education, research, and European innovation in shaping the modern digital world, while fostering public dialogue on Cyprus’s place within the broader technological and scientific landscape.
