70 maker girls design and code in Luleå, Sweden

Publication date: November 10, 2016

Just before 9 in the morning on 15 October more than 70 eager girls, aged 10-15 years, went through the gate in the A-building at Luleå University of Technology.

We offered four different workshops during the day and all the girls had the opportunity to participate in two of them.

  1. Designing with 3D – a workshop where the girls coded patterns with block programming (Turtle Stitch) and then embroidered the pattern with our embroidery machine. There were also 3D printers and the ability to 3D modelling.
  2. Create your own computer games in Scratch.
  3. Programming with light – a workshop where the girls created their own brilliant creations. A neopixel jewel and Gemma was the base of the structure.
  4. Virtual reality – a workshop where the girls could build 3D environments in Unity.

When the day was over, it was a bunch of happy, satisfied and tired girls who left the university.
