Open in-person activity

Easingwold Road
YO61 4TZ York

This event is open to KS2 7-11 year olds Free to attend after school School provides the hard and software needed and a tutor The clubs help young people to make their own games, animations, and websites with code. The club introduces coding concepts one by one so kids progressively build their knowledge. We employ a specialist contractor for this as we are a small school and do not have a teacher with these skills in our school so otherwise the children wouldn't have access to this. We are keen to continue running this club as its very popular and feedback from parents of SEN kids is very positive. See this quote from parent of a highly dyslexic child. "My son has dyslexia so he does struggle with reading and writing in particular, however he has shown a real interest and aptitude for computers and coding and the coding club lessons have really giving him the opportunity to succeed in a different area, which is so important for his self esteem and confidence. His typing and problem solving skills have come on so well and his logical thinking skills have been enhanced as he has needed to devise coding steps in sequence in order to create a working computer game. I have also never seen him concentrate for so long on one thing, so it has really developed his concentration skills, which he does struggle with. I would love for him to be able to attend further coding club sessions to continue to build his confidence and skills and I'm sure the lessons are of particular benefit not just to my son but to all SEN children as it allows them to access learning in a different way."
