Unplugged Activity: Practice Algorithms With a Treasure Hunt

Children will work in groups to create an algorithm to find the hidden treasure. One group will hide the "treasure" (this can be an object, a treat, etc.), it is suggested to hide it in the schoolyard. The team that hides the treasure will write an algorithm (instructions) to help the second team find it. It is important to set the starting point. Also the treasure team should first, themselves, do the route, and take notes so that specific instructions can then be given in detail. Any instructions will be simple such as "Walk 10 steps forward", "Make a right turn on the spot". The instructions/instructions can be written on tabs. The direction can be printed on one side (e.g. the children have drawn an arrow ahead) and on the other side the number the second group has to perform (e.g. 3, they have to walk three steps ahead). When the route is drawn they will take turns to give the cards, one behind the other, to the second group where they have to follow the algorithm. If the path is not clear, or something goes wrong, the code can be debugged to modify the algorithm.
