This lesson introduces an unplugged programming activity, involving students in a competitive / cooperative game that introduces them to the basics of programming, while testing literacy skills in the library school. Every October we celebrate the International School Library Month (ISLM), an opportunity to celebrate the importance of school libraries. The 2019 theme for ISLM is “Let’s Imagine”. Every October the students who enter our school for the first time (7th grade), are invited to visit the school library to know the physical space, its resources and how it works. In a second part of the visit they usually perform a playful activity related to the library. This year it will be diferent: we are inviting participants to think about and celebrate the link between the school library (books, reading … ), coding and imagination. The topic of our activity : Cody Roby The format: a lesson The goals with the activity: To integrate coding and computational thinking activities into the classroom To familiarise students with simple coding activities. To discover the computer aspects of the physical world around us. To put cooperation and competition into practice To understand the distinction between the role of programmer (Cody) and that of robot (Roby)
