Creating games with scratch

After their first steps with scratch, students are going to design an interactive game and program it with this visual language. The aim is to achieve familiarity with coding and programming and understand by using the concepts of objects, movement, coordinates, events, conditions, variables, loops, sounds and blocks. This game consists basically in moving the main object and getting positive points by catching different objects that drops ramdomly from above and avoiding negative points from another objects, in a further second level, objects arrive horizontaly.

Last year our students launched our first "Space Mission" called Candasat I, a high altitude balloon with payload designed, built, assembled, tested, launched to the stratosphere, reaching an altitude around 25000 meters, and recovered with interesting data and images. The electronics is based in Arduino and incorporates pressure, humidity and temperature sensors, which collected atmospheric data and recorded it in a SD card. Now, we are working in the second stage, called Candasat II and we would like to improve the instrumentation of the payload.

With this activity, students design a game to interacting with it, moving characters, modifying its appearance, creating sceneries and acting with counters. The game consist in moving a character in order to catch different objects from above. If they caught the right objects, they´ll added points in the counter and the main character changes its appearance. If it is not the right object, the points will be subtracted from the counter. In the second part of the game, students try to program how to change the scenary when they´ll get one score.
