Workshop Theme: "Who Stole the Leaf?" – inspired by the picture book The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming

Objective: To foster creativity, logical thinking, and family bonding through storytelling, art, play, and introductory coding activities

Participants: Preschool and early school-age children with their parents/ or (pre)school teacher with children

The workshop will feature interactive activities including story reading, art creation, a detective game, and unplugged coding exercises. We would be thrilled to have your support in making this educational and inspiring event a success.

ACTIVITY 1: Coded Path – “The Squirrel Seeks the Leaf”

Description: Children program the squirrel’s movement on a grid to find the lost leaf. Learning Outcomes:

Develop computational thinking and understanding of algorithms.
Practice spatial orientation and step-by-step sequencing.
Strengthen teamwork when working in pairs or groups.

ACTIVITY 2: Drawing by Code – “Autumn in Steps”

Description: Children follow coded instructions to draw an autumn-themed picture. Learning Outcomes:

Improve attention to detail and precision.
Learn to translate verbal instructions into visual output.
Encourage creativity through structured drawing.

ACTIVITY 3: Build a Story – “Who Stole the Leaf?”

Description: Children and parents co-create a story using characters from the picture book, integrating coding elements like action blocks. Learning Outcomes:

Enhance storytelling skills and imagination.
Understand logical sequencing of events.
Foster collaboration between children and parents.ACTIVITY 4: Secret Messages – “Code for a Friend”

Description: Children write messages using simple codes (e.g. letter substitution, binary). Learning Outcomes:

Discover basic cryptography in a playful way.
Build communication skills and digital literacy.
Learn about privacy and safe communication.
