Building Digital Skills: EU Code Week 2025 Highlights from Croatia and Slovenia
22/07/25
We’re happy to share all the exciting events and activities that took place over spring in Croatia and Slovenia under the guidance of the Profil Klett team as the regional EU Code Week hub.
Through a series of events, workshops and collaborations, the EU Code Week community in Croatia and Slovenia, inspired students to explore the world of digital skills. As part of the Girls in Digital and Dream Jobs Campaigns, teachers and tech leaders implemented inclusive STEM activities and connected education with industry. The central message was clear: there is no single way to be a girl or a woman in STEM. Every contribution is valuable and needed.
Collaborations with schools
In Croatia, the campaign included numerous schools, kindergartens and faculties across Croatia. Split School of Natural Sciences, Rude Elementary School, Otočac Highschool, Malešnica and Čigra kindergartens, and the Faculty of Teacher Education, to name a few, organized workshops, challenges, posters, quizzes and lectures on the topic of digital skills and gender equality. TinkerLab Daruvar marked our Girls in Digital initiative and International Women’s Day in an inspiring way. Through a special event, young participants explored the incredible contributions of women in science through interactive experiments and coding activities.
In Slovenia, as part of the Inovativna pedagogika initiative, numerous activities were organised across elementary and high schools in the country, involving both unplugged and digital activities. Inovativna pedagogika organised a conference for teachers and educators, and a hackathon with Minecraft for students. Elementary schools organised workshops in AI, robotics, STEAM and digital literacy. Nejc Kurbus, the EU Code Week Ambassador in Slovenia, supported the development of the activities.
Profil Klett organised a regional hackathon for high school students with team members tackling the challenge of building an inclusive and engaging educational platform. The winning team came from Maribor, Slovenia and won amazing prizes! The keynote speaker, Valentina Zadrija, an inspirational leader in the tech and digital world inspired all attendees. EU Code Week Leading Teachers in Croatia Anita Čorak and Danijela Maurac were members of the Jury along with Nejc Kurbus, Ambassador for Slovenia and Janko Radigović, Ambassador for Croatia.
Collaborations with NGOs and the community
The campaign also gathered many non-profit organizations and associations. The Croatian Computer Science Association organized the panel “(P)ostani programerka (Become a Programmer)” with former Croatian Olympiad contestants and industry professionals. The Forum for Freedom in Education enabled teachers to implement workshops on gender equality using the “Box of Change” resource, linked to the campaign’s goals. Associations like Knitted Logic carried out various interactive activities.
CISOK Zagreb (Croatian Employment Service) and Maxtura hosted an event at School of Geodesy supporting this year’s graduates to discuss trends in the job market, the demand for future skills and the importance of purposing careers in STEM.
The World Robotics Olympiad in Croatia was organised in Samobor, Croatia where EU Code Week brand and values were promoted with the support of Profil Klett. The competition aligned with Code Week values and engaged almost 200 students and their mentors. The competition was organised by Janko Radigović, the EU Code Week Ambassador in Croatia.
Collaborations with industry
Companies were not left out. Numerous tech companies recognized the importance of empowering girls in STEM and got involved through mentorships, educational activities and inspirational meetings. Neuralab organized an honest and inspiring webinar with young IT professionals, Span conducted a special workshop and shared personal experiences, and students from Ruđer Bošković Secondary School had the opportunity to meet the Engineer of the Year 2024, Lada Kovjanić, through a workshop in creating websites.
The hub thanks all our Leading Teachers and Ambassadors in Croatia and Slovenia for their valuable contributions and activities they frequently conduct with students to promote coding and digital skills.
