13/08/25
Code Week in Greece continues to thrive, bringing together a dynamic community of teachers, students, researchers, and professionals who believe coding is more than just a skill—it’s a key to creativity, problem-solving, and shaping a better future. Over the past year, the Greek hub of EU Code Week has organized a series of inspiring events, leaving a lasting impact on participants across the country.
Decode the Universe
On November 3rd, 2024, Code Week Greece joined forces with the Department of Physics at the University of Athens and the Young Minds NKUA student team to host Decode the Universe, an event that fused Space Week with Code Week. Young participants aged 16+ explored Python programming to analyze the light of distant stars and uncover exoplanets using time-series analysis. Through hands-on activities like the Fourier Transform and Lomb-Scargle periodograms, students didn’t just learn code—they learned how to decipher the cosmos. It was a powerful example of how science and technology converge to inspire the next generation of researchers.
Greek EU Code Week Hackathon: Hello, Future!
In March 2025, the Greek EU Code Week Hackathon brought together students aged 15 to 19 to tackle real-world challenges in healthcare. Over two days, teams collaborated to design innovative digital solutions, guided by mentors and evaluated by a jury of experts from the Ministry of Digital Governance, Microsoft Hellas, UniSystems, Vidavo A.E., Athena RC, and several universities.
The winning team, Synergy Solutions, impressed the judges with Remedy: Health Made Easy, a website featuring a chatbot that provides reliable information on physical and psychological health, curated by medical professionals.
Girls in Digital
On March 16th, 2025, Girls in Digital & Science provided an empowering platform for young women aspiring to enter the tech world. Co-organized with the Greek Coalition, Microsoft Hellas, UniSystems, and several universities, the event featured 10 women from digital fields sharing their journeys, challenges, and insights. Topics included science and research, cybersecurity, tech careers, AI, and neural networks. The message resonated clearly: the future of tech is inclusive, and every girl has the space to thrive, lead, and innovate.
Careers in Digital Seminars
From April to June 2025, the Careers in Digital Seminar Series gave students aged 14+ a glimpse into the vast opportunities in the digital sector. Experts from Athena RC, CityLab, Archeiothiki A.E., and the University of Athens highlighted career paths ranging from AI system development to exploring underwater volcanoes using cutting-edge tech. These sessions weren’t just informative—they were inspiring, showing students how digital skills can take them anywhere.
6th CityLab STEM Festival
The 6th CityLab STEM Festival was a celebration of creativity and innovation, with students aged 4 to 17 presenting robotics and programming projects and participating in exciting competitions. Organized under the aegis of the Municipality of Alimos, the festival highlighted projects using Arduino, micro:bit, IoT, and web development. Volunteers, mentors, and teachers made this event a success, proving once again the power of community in nurturing the next generation of innovators.
Looking Ahead
The momentum of Code Week Greece shows no sign of slowing down. The next months will see the Code Week Conference: STEM in Education in September 2025, co-organized with the Eugenides Foundation. November will host the Greek EU Code Week Hackathon 2025, followed by a special programming event for youth 16+ in December 2025. Alongside these, countless local events and Train-the-Trainer initiatives will continue to bring coding and digital skills closer to communities across the country.
Code Week Greece is about more than coding—it’s about connecting people with technology, innovation, and each other. Whether you’re a student, a teacher, or a digital professional, there’s a place for you in this growing movement.
