Co-Designing the Future of Code Week & A Creative Surprise ✨

07/08/25

After two days of inspiration and connection, the final sessions of the Code Week Summer School in Avigliana focused on action: shaping the future of Code Week 2025 together.

A Creative Co-Design Session

At the heart of the Summer School was a dynamic co-design workshop, led by Ambassador Alessandro Bogliolo. The goal was simple but ambitious: to rethink and reimagine how Code Week can be more impactful, inclusive, and connected in 2025.

The session began with a mindset mapping activity — a playful exercise where teachers placed themselves around the room based on mindsets such as experimental, optimistic, courageous, data-driven, or collaborative. This simple but powerful activity revealed the diversity of perspectives within the group and encouraged empathy and mutual understanding.
From there, participants paired up for peer interviews. Each teacher shared what inspires them for the upcoming edition of Code Week and how they envision making their contributions meaningful. These conversations sparked new ideas and common goals.

Building on these insights, the group split into three working teams, each with a clear mission:

  • Building an ecosystem around the school territory: strengthening ties with local organizations, families, and communities.

  • Integrating Code Week into the school curriculum: making coding a regular part of learning, not just a once-a-year event.

  • Designing a more inclusive communication strategy: reaching a broader range of teachers, students, and partners.

From Ideas to Action

The brainstorming was lively and creative. Teachers proposed concrete, doable ideas such as:

  • Turning Open Days and Welcome Days into opportunities to introduce coding activities.

  • Using local parks and community spaces for hands-on, inclusive workshops.

  • Developing toolkits to help schools integrate Code Week into their regular activities.
Each team concluded with a roadmap of practical steps that they are now committed to putting into action for Code Week 2025. These roadmaps are not only valuable for Italy but can serve as inspiration for Code Week communities across Europe.

A Creative Surprise

The Summer School ended with a heartfelt gesture that perfectly captured its spirit of creativity and collaboration.
Two Leading Teachers, Fabrizia Agnello and Maria Giovanna Battaglia, surprised the group with handmade Code Week gadgets, designed especially for the occasion. The gifts were more than souvenirs — they were a symbol of the passion and care that defines the Italian Code Week community.

But the surprise didn’t stop there! Fabrizia and Maria Giovanna announced two online creative workshops, open to the entire Code Week community. Using Tinkercad, participants will learn how to design and 3D print their own Code Week gadgets.
