PixelArt: Led cubes is an unplugged activity, engaging students at 10-11 age to create  a paper pixel cube that makes them familiarize with the art of pixel elements and enhance their computational thinking. In addition, students can create their very first LED circuit in no time and spend all their creativity making different designs for their LED cube! It has to be mentioned that pixel designs are linked to 11th Sustainable Development Goal (Sustainable Cities and Communities) targets  and present through a cube paper pattern the main goals which a sustainable city should achieve.  The activity is going to take place on 18th March 2022. At first place, students  work individual, creating their own pixel cube and learn  about the electronic components and connection of their own led circuit.

This activity has four main objectives: 1) Students will learn how to design their own pixel template,  2) students can create their very first LED circuit, 3) Students will learn the importance of 11th Sustainable Development Goal in order to build an inclusive and sustainable city,4) They will also be able to use this activity repeatedly to consolidate the topic in a funny way by adding more Sustainable Development Goals. Furthermore, students of other classes will be given the opportunity to learn/review the same topic in the future (as “ready-to-use” material).   This “learning-by-doing activity” can help students to raise their motivation and awareness in the learning process  and challenge them  to think deeply about how to select and organize the code steps into coherent structures and  construct their own pixel led cube.

Prior knowledge: students have a basic knowledge of  Sustainable Development Goals framework and they will also use  pre unplugged code activity on a paper pattern.

It  has to be mentioned that this activity is using the idea of Led Pixel Cubes of VoltPaperScissors.com J

Code week online training
Wed, Apr 10, 2024 6:00 PM

In the context of informing about the actions of the European Code Week (Eu Code Week) as well as promoting the strengthening of students' algorithmic thinking, an online connection (2 hours) will be held on 10/4/2024, where it will be addressed to teachers and students who interested in taking their first steps in integrating programming and coding in a simple way to primary school and kindergarten students. Participants will receive certificates of participation from EU Code Week.

The action is carried out by Triantafillou Evangelia (kindergarten teacher-director of the 2nd Kindergarten of Peania), Margarita Dakoronia (teacher), and Chrysoula Georgakopoulou (Informatics teacher) from the 32nd Primary School of Piraeus, as Code Week leading teachers and is supported by Eu Code Week and Google.
