Scratch Jr is an introductory programming language that lets kids snap together code blocks to make characters move, jump, dance and sing. During this session, children will build fun projects and learn coding concepts along the way. They will tag along with Kitten in Scratch Jr with the help of Scratch Jr Coding Cards. They will make Kitten wake up, get ready for school, walk to the bus stop, go to school, make friends there, shoot for the basket, sing a song, etc. Children will work on the projects at home on their own or in small groups. If they don't have appropriate tablets they will be able to borrow from us. During the session, we will be in contact with the children on an online platform (Google Meet, Skype, or Zoom, we will choose the one that best suits them). They will share videos or photos of their work on a shared Padlet wall.

Lego We Do Zoo
Mon, Oct 4, 2021 4:00 PM
Because of the pandemic, schools weren't able to organize excursions or visits to the nearby zoo. This gave the idea to let children imagine and create their own zoos with the help of Lego We Do sets. Children can work alone or in small groups at home. They will be able to borrow our Lego We Do sets and tablets if needed. They will be encouraged to create Lego WeDo zoo animals that can move and produce sounds or make their own zoo using their toy animals and build Milo the Lego WeDo robot to feed the zoo animals. We will be in contact with the children on an online platform (Skype, Google Meet, or other) and they will share photos and videos of their end-products on a shared Padlet wall.
Letters to Santa
Mon, Oct 11, 2021 4:00 PM
Introducing the problem with a Stop Motion video: Alice's father is a postman. He works hard every day to bring the cards and letters to every house and flat in our town. Unfortunately, one day he slips on a banana peel and breaks his leg. Oh no, he can't take the children's letters to Santa. What can we do now? Brainstorming ideas to solve the problem: Children will be encouraged to find solutions with the help of Lego We Do sets. Solving the problem: Children will work individually or in small groups at home to create Lego We Do vehicles or robots that carry the children's letters to Lapland. They will have to create a mat where they label their hometown and all the countries the robot crosses. They will be encouraged to find solutions for crossing the Baltic Sea, too. After completing the task, children will share their projects on a shared Padlet wall, where they will be able to post photos, descriptions, and videos of their work.
Coding and yoga
Thu, Oct 7, 2021 4:00 PM
It is not easy to find authentic English materials for the younger ones apart from songs, chants, and traditional stories. Yet, these can be boring after a while. With Cosmic Kids Yoga, children can learn and do yoga while listening to Jamie’s stories. After that, kids use programmable floor robots to recreate the stories. There are many ways to use cards and the floor robot. The simplest one is when the children choose a card and direct the robot to it. They say the instructions in English and name the cards. If this is not their first yoga time, they can even perform the yoga pose when they land on a card (e.g. tree pose). They can make the task more challenging by adding dangers or obstacles. They can put volcanos, frogs, spiders, or make a labyrinth out of pencils. Children will work alone or in small groups at home. They take photos or videos of their work and post them on our shared Padlet wall.
