From 9 to 20 November 2020, I am planning to introduce the app J2Code (j2e.com/malta) which is available to all students in our primary schools on their school tablet (each student has access to his/her own tablet which is given to each pupil as part of the One Tablet per Child initiative). I am planning an engaging 90 minutes lesson with the upper classes (8-10 years old) of primary education at Senglea Primary School within St Margaret College. The main objectives of this lesson are: 1) Students will get acquainted with J2Code and learn how to create a dialogue among different sprites on screen; 2) Students will learn how to plan a dialogue in English and create a storyboard focusing on both the language and the development of their J2Code project. During this activity students will collaboratively work in pairs to create the storyboard and discuss the sprites’ actions. During the initial steps of this project, students will develop their coding skills, by availing themselves of block programming, and nurture computational thinking strategies to overcome all the challenges during planning and implementation phase; 3) They will also be granted the opportunity to publish their stories in J2Webby which is part of the J2E ecosystem and share their stories with their peers. They will be granted the opportunity to critically evaluate and discuss how the digital artefacts can be enhanced. This will nurture the students’ self reflection process since they have to think, reflect, discuss and innovate As a follow-up of this project, students can participate in a national competition about J2Code which will be organised in the coming months.

Continuation of 1-line with Edison - A... higher level tracks

Students are provided with drawings (tracks) consisting of geometrical tracks with different lengths and angles. They are to find their way along the track, and subsequently code the robot, without going along the same line twice.

Hey Edison... Lets Vroom

A starter activity for students who are using Edison robot for the first time.

Students are provided with a worksheet to code the robot to follow different paths and execute different instructions at the different stop points.

Tower of Hanoi - Computational Thinking
Mon, Mar 24, 2025 1:40 PM

An unplugged activity where students have to solve the puzzle with 4 disks using the minimum amount of moves (15). Students are to represent the steps involved in a flowchart
