Directions with Escornabot

Thu, Oct 1, 2020 10:00 AM

This is an English as a second language class for primary school students. The objective is to work with coding in a fun way to review the vocabulary for directions and for names of places. On the floor, we place images of common places in a town, for example: bank, school, post office etc. These form a grid-like structure reminiscent of a town layout, with streets connecting the places. One member of each pair will be able to see the map on the floor; the other may not, and must turn away. The students who turn away from the map are given an Escornabot to program. The student who can see the map then is given the task of communicating - in English - the route for an Escornabot to take between two places in the town. The partner must program the robot according to the instructions and it will be placed on the floor to undertake its voyage.

Students and teachers organize small demonstrations in several classes, during two weeks, in different grades and subjects. Should be students from the previous yera thet had been in the club of programmation and robotics to present and explain the demosntrations. They shall give some flyers to their colleagues from the classes we visit, and receive the questions and answers. This is intended to students and teachers from 2-3th grade but open to all community. The continuity of the clube that start last year with more challenges ans participataros would be a recognition and a privilegy to all school envolvement and mostly the students skills development.
