Unlocking Superpowers: Learning to Code at Primary School

The 4th grade pupils of the 1st Primary School of Pera Chorio - Nisou will take part in the Europe Code Week 2016, aiming to introduce children to computer programming and new technologies. The pupils will be taught basic programming skills during school time activities in their mathematics lessons, which aspire to develop their mathematical, creative and critical thinking skills. The activities of this action include: 1) Giving directions in natural space: using the "Twister" chart and the "Maze" game illustrated in the school yard, the pupils give directions to each other to move from one point to another using verbal and then visual marks, in order to understand the importance of giving precise directions 2) Introduction to programming with blocks: pupils use the step-to-step guides in code.org for "Minecraft" and "Angry Birds" to explore the basic principles of coding through fun activities. 3) Creating structured videogames: pupils use the step-to-step guide in code.org for "Ice Age" to explore the basic principles for creating a video game. 4) Introduction to Scratch: pupils explore and practice the use of Scratch by creating sprites and backgrounds, and applying blocks at given situations. 5) Creating own videogames with Scratch: pupils decide the setting, sprites and rules for creating their own videogame. The videogames produced by the children will be shared (a) with their family and friends through website, and (b) with our European teacher and pupil school partners at the eTwinning project "International Scratch Challenge". Οι μαθητές της Δ' τάξης του Α΄ Δημοτικού Σχολείου Πέρα Χωρίου και Νήσου θα λάβουν μέρος στην Ευρωπαϊκή Εβδομάδα Κώδικα 2016 που θα διεξαχθεί σε όλη την Ευρώπη από τις 15 μέχρι τις 23 Οκτωβρίου, έχοντας σκοπό να φέρει τα παιδιά σε επαφή με τον προγραμματισμό ηλεκτρονικών υπολογιστών και τις νέες τεχνολογίες. Τα παιδιά θα διδαχτούν βασικές αρχές του προγραμματισμού κατά την διάρκεια του μαθήματος των μαθηματικών, οι οποίες στοχεύουν στην ανάπτυξη των μαθηματικών τους ικανοτήτων, της δημιουργικότητας και της κριτικής τους σκέψης. Οι δραστηριότητες της δράσης περιλαμβάνουν: 1) Οδηγίες μετατόπισης στο φυσικό χώρο: αξιοποίηση του χάρτη του παιχνιδιού Twister και του Λαβύρινθου για παιχνίδια με οδηγίες στην αυλή του σχολείου, ώστε τα παιδιά να αντιληφθούν τη σημασία των σωστών οδηγιών - πρώτα λεκτικά και μετά με βέλη. 2) Εισαγωγή στον προγραμματισμό με μπλοκς: αξιοποίηση των βήμα-προς-βήμα οδηγών του code.org "Minecraft" και "Angry Birds" για να κατανοήσουν τα παιδιά τις βασικές αρχές του προγραμματισμού, μέσα από παιγνιώδη δραστηριότητες. 3) Κατασκευή δομημένου βιντεοπαιχνιδιού: αξιοποίηση του βήμα-προς-βήμα οδηγού "Η εποχή των παγετώνων" του code.org για να κατανοήσουν τα παιδιά τις αρχές δημιουργίας ενός βιντεοπαιχνιδιού. 4) Γνωριμία με το πρόγραμμα Scratch: κατασκευή χαρακτήρων και φόντων, εφαρμογή εντολών σε σενάρια. 5) Κατασκευή βιντεοπαιχνιδιού στο Scratch: σχεδιασμός (επιλογή σεναρίου, πρωταγωνιστών και κανονισμών) και κατασκευή βιντεοπαιχνιδιού από τα παιδιά στο Scratch. Τα βιντεοπαιχνίδια των παιδιών θα παρουσιαστούν (α) στις οικογένειες και τους φίλους των παιδιών μέσω ιστοσελίδας και (β) στους Ευρωπαϊκούς συνεργάτες εκπαιδευτικούς και μαθητές του προγράμματος eTwinning "International Scratch Challenge", στο οποίο συμμετέχει το σχολείο.
