Description: Build Your Own Robot: This unplugged activity teaches children two very basic concepts of coding: algorithm and sequence. An algorithm refers to a set of step by step instructions for performing a task. A sequence refers to the order of steps in an algorithm. • Step 1: Build a Lego figure using the lego bricks. • Step2: Make the two kids sit opposite to each other on two ends of the desk. Place the partition wall or the cardboard piece in the middle of the desk. Give the completed Lego figure to one child (the Programmer) but make sure that the other child (the Computer) doesn't see it. • Step 3: Give the desired pieces of Legos to the other child (the Computer) • Step 4: Then ask the Programmer to give one instruction at a time to the Computer to build his robot. • Step 5: The job of the computer is to build his robot without seeing the model and only listening to the Programmer’s instructions. • If they are unable to recreate the Lego robot with the given instructions, they will realize that there is something wrong with the instructions and need to go back and check them again. This is a key concept of coding called debugging. • The difficulty level of this game can be increased by giving the Computer more than the desired Lego pieces. The computer has to choose only the desired pieces and reject the undesired pieces according to the Programmer’s instructions.

EU coding week 2019, under the slogan "Coding is easy, try it!". Student and graduate students from our highschool will be able to take place in this event that will be held from Monday 7th of October till Friday 11th of October. We'll be using the ICT lab of our school, where participants will be using Scratch visual programming, for creating animations and educational games. Code monkey and blockly-games will be used for smaller ages and finally graduate students from our school team, will show activities with Robotic Kit Lego EV3, in order to demonstrate computational thinking and problem solving. It is possible to establish an Etwinning cooperation.

Do you like playing with Lego and are interested in robotics? Do you want to learn how to code? We’ll help you how to build and code your Lego robot! Learning is always the most effective when students equally engage their minds and hands to implement models, solutions and ideas. With these activity, this is exactly what is provided. Children are given a problem that is solved by a robotized model. In doing so, children are challenged not only to make a model and software algorithm that moves the model, but to use their knowledge in the direction of how to improve the model, how to cheat it, how to improve the corresponding performance, etc. children discover the impact of individual changes in the behavior of the model. Finally, students present their model and thus communicate the overall knowledge gained on the topic requested.
