In this free online course we want to teach you programming with Ruby. The web framework Ruby on Rails led to the high popularity of this programming language. But it offers a lot more. In Week 1 you’ll learn to understand the syntax and the most important constructs of Ruby. In Week 2, participants will learn how to write actual classes. Furthermore, the course team explains how to write small, but useful programs into the command line (input, output, the reading and writing of files). In Week 3, participants are shown how bigger programs in Ruby are structured and split and how external libraries (so called Gems) can be integrated. After taking this course you should be able to read Ruby Code and understand the syntax, try out the language on an interactive console, write scripts and smaller Ruby programs yourself, as well as structure and split bigger programs. Like other openHPI programming courses, this course is very practical and contains a great many practical tasks. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate.
