Sisters are doin’ it for themselves – Gather your crew and join the fun
Publication date: March 11, 2025
Hey there, future tech leaders! Are you ready to take the digital world by storm? EU Code Week is back with another exciting installment of Girls in Digital Week, and we’re calling all spirited, innovative, and daring teenage girls to step up and shine. This is your time to show the world what you and your friends can do with some creativity, code, and collaboration.
Why You Should Get Involved
Gathering your friends for a Girls in Digital activity isn’t just about having fun (although there’s plenty of that too!). It’s about challenging yourselves, learning new skills, and maybe even discovering your future career path. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned coder, there’s something for everyone.
Planning Your Activity
We recommend teaming up with at least one buddy for a two-hour tech adventure, but why stop there? The more, the merrier! Here’s a mix of activities ranging from beginner-friendly to advanced to get your creative gears turning:
- Social Media Savvy: Create and launch a social media campaign that could educate, inspire, or even entertain. Pick a theme—like eco-friendly tech or women in STEM—and use your platform to spread the word.
- App Development Dash: Team up to design an app. Start with a simple idea, like a daily organizer for students or a wellness app, and see where your imagination takes you. Use platforms like MIT App Inventor or Scratch for a more straightforward approach if you’re just starting out.
- EU Code Week Dance Challenge: Who says coding and dancing don’t mix? Choreograph a dance that incorporates coding concepts or the binary system and challenge others to learn it or make their own. Create a tutorial, upload it, and watch the likes and shares roll in!
Social Media Safety
As fun as it is to share your projects online, it’s crucial to stay safe. Remember, most social media platforms have a minimum age requirement of 13 years. Here are some tips to keep you safe while you share:
- Keep personal info private: Avoid sharing sensitive information like your address or phone number.
- Think before you post: Once something is online, it can be hard to take back. Make sure whatever you’re sharing is something you’re comfortable with everyone seeing.
- Use privacy settings: Adjust your account settings to control who can see your posts and personal info.
- Get savvy about scams: Learn to recognize common scams and protect your accounts with strong, unique passwords.
How to Get Your Activity on the Map
Once you’ve planned your event, make it official by adding it to the EU Code Week Activity Map. Here’s how:
- Head over to EU Code Week’s Activity Guide and register your event. It’s a simple way to let the world know you’re making moves in the digital space.
Sharing Your Success
After your event, don’t forget to take to social media to show off what you and your friends accomplished. Tag us and use the hashtag #GirlsinDigital. We love seeing your innovations and how you’re changing the game in tech.
So, what are you waiting for? Gather your crew, brainstorm some ideas, and plan a Girls in Digital activity that could light up your path in the tech world. It’s your time to lead, inspire, and most importantly, have a ton of fun doing it!
Let’s show everyone what girls in digital can really do. Ready, set, innovate!
