Commissioner Kroes joins Code Week, #FlagShipGame launched and Ireland back on top

A CoderDojo event in Anderlecht yesterday was attended by European Commissioner for Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes and Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander de Croo. You can find photos from the event on Facebook and in our Flickr group.

The Flag Ship game was launched yesterday. You can download the game from flagshipgame.eu, where you can also find information about how to contribute your own code to this exciting collaborative project initiated in Italy.

Ireland claimed back the first place in terms of the total number of events. Both Ireland and Greece now have over 400 total events! However, the scoreboard, which considers the number of events in relation to the size of the population, is still headed by Iceland.

Down at the level of regions, though, Catalonia seems to be one of the most active regions. We have not checked ourselves (yet), but we will gladly take their word for it – great to see so many events!

If you were wondering who won the Kodu Kup mentioned yesterday, the BBC reports it was a team from the UK –team mates Alfie Finch-Critchley (14), Joseph Banerjee (12) and Jonathan Haleyfrom (12) from Uppingham Community College in the East Midlands – with their game ‘Confined’. Congratulations!

 

Code Week got some more media love – today we especially liked two videos produced by Swedish TV. If you enjoy languages or just have faith in automated translators, read the blog posts from Magic Makers (French) and from SIDN (Dutch), the company behind the .nl domain.
