The Halloween coding workshops will give young people 10-12 years in Galway city and county the opportunity to come together online and have fun coding. Young people will learn to design, code and create retro games using makecode and BBC Mirco:bits. The goal of the workshops are to promote coding and inspire young people to be creative. The workshops will be offered to young people attending family support services and youth services in Galway city and county. To ensure all young people have equal opportunity to attend we will loan laptops and mirco:bits to families where required. On completion of these workshops young people will be able to; o Demonstrate an understanding of coding, o Design, code and create a retro game, o Develop confidence using technology in a fun and creative way, o Communicate and collaborate with a group of peers and trained coders. Galway STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) project is a joint initiative between Tusla and Foróige which aims to support community based youth and family support services in Galway city and county to incorporate STEAM activities into their work practices through ongoing training and support.
