Teen-Turn participants are welcome to join us over the October holiday week to break and build laptops! One of the main challenges of crossing the digital divide is equipment ownership. Not every teen has access to a laptop, yet the increase in remote learning has made it a necessity. Teen-Turn participants in this activity will receive 'junk' laptops donated to our organization from mentors and company partners. The challenge will be to diagnose and repair to working order the item -- which then will be yours to use! The virtual week will run at lunchtime to enable as many company mentors as possible to facilitate. The schedule will be as follows: Mon 1 hr Webinar with Q&A (diagnosing the problem) Tues 2 hr Breakout Sessions with Mentors Wed 1hr Webinar with Q&A (smart repairs and tricks of the trade) Thu 2 hr Breakout Sessions with Mentors Fri 1 hr Showcase of Participant Progress Learning will include the replacement of hard drives and fans, installing operating systems, BIOS functions and other basics. An accompanying webpage with recordings of the webinars and links to supporting materials will be made available on our website.
