Animal Coding – 1. The teacher will start the activity by showing the students the coding map on the IWB. Then ask the students to place the arrows on the map to show the direction the animal has to follow to get to the food. The teacher discusses with the students the various routes the animal can take and highlights the fact that the best route is the shortest one. S/he also encourages to students to use the appropriate vocabulary when they are giving directions and emphasises on the new word ‘algorithm’.2. Then the students will work in pairs. Each pair will be given a set of animals’ coding mats and a set of arrows. The students will take it in turns to code the path and check each other’s code. 3. Meanwhile the teacher goes round the class and asks the students to explain the code.
